5 Steps To Getting Started

  1. PURCHASE YOUR BOOK  – I provide lessons to the following books:
    • Standard Of Excellence Books #1 or #2  – for all woodwind, brass, and mallet players.
    • Alfred’s Drum Method – for all snare drummers.
    • Jazz Combo Session  – for all woodwind, brass, and mallet players interested in learning jazz!
    • *MAKE SURE TO INDICATE THE CORRECT INSTRUMENT YOU PLAY WHEN PURCHASING!
    • *If you do not already own and use this book(s), then use the link provided and it will guide you how to purchase. Learning the music taught in these books applies to EVERY band book used on the planet and EVERY piece of music you will play in band!  Click To Purchase. 
    • For Beginners – Select Standard Of Excellence Book 1
    • For Intermediates – Select Standard Of Excellence Book 2
      • If you’re unsure, start with Book 1.  Or, get both books 1 and 2.
      • If you have been playing for 3 years or more, then Book 2 is likely the best choice.

  2. PLAY FREE LESSON PACK
    • Click the “Get FREE lesson pack” and find free lessons and a password sign-up. You’ll find:
      • Beginner and intermediate free lessons for brass and woodwinds
      • Snare drum free lessons
      • Jazz lesson for brass, woodwinds, and bells including 6 fun solos
    • Begin watching and playing along with free lesson videos. These videos show you lots of the ways I teach using super easy songs to learn.
  3. PLAY FUN-DAMENTALS PACK
    • Click “Join Now” to purchase membership and start my “Fun-damentals Pack” videos.
    • Under “Resources” click on “Tracking Sheets“. Print out the Tracking Goal Sheet corresponding to your book.
    • These videos start much slower than all the rest of my regular videos but are necessary for learning my teaching tricks and what all the fun terms I use mean – like “Juice, juice, pan-cake, juice…haawt sauce, cock-a-doo-dle juice!”
    • Play through the following Fun-damentals Pack videos in order:

      4. The “Write” Counts
      5. One Note At A Time (Intermediates only)
      6. Fast Pairs (Intermediates only)
  4. RECEIVE NEW BOOK AND BEGIN PLAYING LESSONS
    • Pick exercises from band book and watch that specific video with me breaking down every aspect of the song and helping you to totally understand the rhythms and figure out how to play the notes.
  5. PLAY JAZZ PACK (for extra fun!)
    • This pack of lessons is for all woodwind, brass, and mallet players.
    • Start with “Second Line”!! I bet you will suddenly discover a whole new way to play that is fun and exciting. I’m not kidding. Go for it.
